About Mama Chaka’s

Even though the concept is not new and there is no history to speak of, the products and the brand ambassador give it a heritage that is distinctly South African. The simple yet incredibly strong brand identity using a silhouette of one of the country’s most recognised and loved icons, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, will no doubt become a household name in the HMR (home meal replacement) meal segment.

In June 2014 the brand was conceptualized and the identity created with Yvonne Chaka Chaka as the brand ambassador. When Yvonne agreed, the image of this famous and much loved icon on the logo became a reality and is destined to become an integral part of life in South Africa.

The meals are based on the traditional meals enjoyed by all South Africans for the last century combining recipes from all the different ethnic cultures. These meals have now been supplemented with additional Chicken and Beef recipes supplied with a range of starches to suit the various population groups and demographics.

The basis of the concept however remains focussed on nutritious, freshly prepared meals using only the best natural ingredients and stringent health and safety standards. All the meals are prepared at our central kitchen in Malmesbury which started in Kraaifontein and was officially opened in November 2014 by Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Professor Tim Noakes. The meals are cooked, cooled, packed, labelled and then blast frozen. The meals are then delivered to the wholesalers and retailers in refrigerated vehicles by a national distribution company where they are kept frozen or refrigerated until sold to the consumer.
